The heat doesn't bother me one bit. I don't have quality of life here in Ca because I am always working.

The heat is bearable but it's the humidity that gets you. There's nothing more frustrating than getting trapped in your house and not being able to enjoy outdoor activities comfortably. Step outside for a few minutes and you'll be sweaty & smelly, and let's not forget about the mosquito. Since you're working all the time, your off time should be an enjoyable one! I've been to San Diego several times and it's scenic & the weather is beautiful. But hey, houses are so cheap here compared to SD.

That's true about the humidity .. but at least my skin will look good!! I hate how dry the heat is here. I live a little north of SD in the valley, and the summers get to be about 100, but it's dry heat.

I wish more than anything that we had thunderstorms and warm rain here. That type of thing is my favorite! But yeah, affording anything out here is ridiculous. I am doing great for 26, but I've worked extremely hard to get my business where it is. I am now in a position to buy a home but the home I renting now is valued around 1.5 million- and I could get the same home in Tx for probably around $250k. It's ridiculous. I just want a simpler life. California is so fast and stupidly focused on "things". I'm a country girl, and I can't wait to get my hands on Texas! haha

From what I've seen, country girls don't usually do well in Houston. It's way too urban and "cityish" (lots of freeways, buildings, cookie-cutter neighborhoods with few trees and lots of "prominent garage" houses, etc). There's no connection to the countryside and rural life in Houston. If you're a country girl, you'd want to look far from Houston.

I agree completely with Slingster about the humidity. It's hard to understate the effect of that, and how quickly and easily it can make you feel greasy and dirty. What's so great about a place when you have to stay indoors to keep reasonably cool and decent? That makes half of the year a waste of time. And only focusing on the economic side (job and a home), while ignoring everything else, could lead to a disappointing future, especially if you don't visit first for that all-important reality check.

Oh well, we've tried to tell you. You'll see and experience exactly what we are telling you, and then it'll sink in.

I lived in San Diego for 2 years, and I don't completely agree with you on this. There's quite a bit of a difference between the two cities, albeit, Houston may still not be a Hill Country town, it is definitely a Southern city with a lot more of what she's looking for in the surrounding Houston areas. San Diego and Houston are 2 completely different beasts, and since she has the drive to get away from SD, and look for something more Texas, Houston is a great choice.

Sure, Houston is a city like any other, but it's a Texas city, and there IS a difference. Believe me, I know this first hand.

Here are a few 'country feel' towns that are only a hop-and-skip away from the Houston metro area that she can choose from:

Old Katy
Fulshear
Spring (Old Spring area)
Clear Lake
Friendswood
Crosby
Humble
Rosharon
Richmond

Dang, mang...there's plenty to choose from.

Exactly my point ! Thanks for the great response.
I've been to Texas a few times (Dallas area) and to me, it's very country! Compared to California, I mean oh my gosh.
Ill check out those areas when I visit. I'll be visiting twice before I make any decisions. Texas in general is such a huge change from Ca.. I think it's exactly what I'm looking for. Something like humidity won't stop me .. lol millions of people love Texas and every place has its good&bads.
Thanks again!!

Wow, that's wrong. San Diego County voted for Obama both in 2008 and 2012, and the city has been majority-Democrat since at least the 1990s.

The most conservative area of California is the Central Valley (Fresno, Bakersfield, etc.).

So did Brittany move out here? Some of you guys were awfully mean to her. What the hell. It's funny how so many of you liberals are all against hate in TX but in the north east the crap that comes out of your mouth about conservatives I can't even post on this board without getting banned. It's also humorous after reading some of these posts where you guys act like you have no quality of life because you can't go outside 6 months a year because of the heat. Have any of you guys lived in Chicago!!!!!!! My God, Chicago is hell on Earth for 6 months out of the year. It's so cold you feel you like you are going to die waiting outside for a bus. Do you guys down here realize that up north we have this thing called winter. And it kind of puts a cramp on our "outdoor" life as well. Jeez. Some of you down here are a riot. You guys all seem to forget that it's kind of hard to have a high quality of life in places where one cannot afford to do anything. Of course I know all you guys down here are freaking loaded to the gilt and buying that 1.5 million dollar home in LaJolla is like a drop in the bucket. Makes me wonder what all you "rich" guys are doing in Houston.
