If you're looking for a better beach versus the beaches away from the seawall, Port Aransas is hardly any better (sometimes worse with all that seaweed). I've never been to South Padre, but judging by pictures that aren't enhanced all to hell, I don't think the long trip is worth it. Some photos out there show nice water, other times it's almost as murky as Galveston (just a lighter tan shade). If I were going to spend that much time in the car, I'd head out on I-10 east, drop down to Gulf Shores, AL and crawl eastward. You also won't see "Gulf Shores" or "Destin" and "travel warning" in government issued statements.
Those beaches are like the most underrated. Gulf Shores-Orange Beach is beautiful.

Those beaches are equivalent to Destin, just the area is lower-key and not as trendy. The sand there reminds me of the sand on 7-mile-beach in Negril, powdery white and clean. The water seems to be a lot rougher than Galveston, but IMO those AL-FL beaches are near world class.

OTOH, the sand in Texas is gritty, sticks to you, makes you itch, gets everywhere and smells like mud. But at least we have a beach nearby, and you can overcome a lot of that before hopping in the car with a couple jugs of drinking water, a washrag and a towel.

Are you kidding me? My parents live near the beach in South Carolina and I've spent time each year for the past 40 years on various beaches in South Carolina from Myrtle Beach all the way down to Hilton Head and all parts in between. The beaches in Galveston are not remotely close to anything in South Carolina.

Your photo has the edge of the road at the left. This is supposed to be a friendly forum. If you disagree with me, say you disagree, but there's no need to call me a raving idiot and a loser.

Wow, another insult. Thanks guys.

In fact I've lived in at least a half dozen US states, a country in Europe, a country in Asia, and spent lots of time in other countries. And I have a valid opinion. Which happens to be quite different than yours.

I'm not talking about the sand. I'm talking about the water. It didn't look brown to me.

The closer to the shore, the browner the water. They were shooting from above sea level so the water you saw was further from the shore, and not as brown.
