I rented a circa 1985 home with no efficiency stuff on it. It also had a CRAPAtrol (Janitrol) A/C unit. My bill got up to $350 during the summer on a 2000 sq/ft home. I kept the A/C at 73 all the time. Folks like to brag about their low bills, mine sucked.

Just sayin'...

1968 rental - original windows, no shade tree, 2000 sq/ft, got up to $350 too. We also liked it cool and someone's home all day. A/c about 10 years old, had a hard time keeping up on a really hot day in the afternoon.

It really does depend on how the house is used. Is the house empty or 2 people home all day.? Work from home with 3 computers going all day, dogs in and out, sun or not, pool, 72 or 78 degrees it depends.

depends...my house is ~2300 and on a heavily wooded lot, but it is built in the 70s with bad windows and insulation. We can do ~$80-100 in the spring and fall, usually ~$200 in the extra hot summer, and $300-500 in the winter. all electric.

This. We're down to about $75 this time of year (even with two kids and all the laundry that entails, plus a work-at-home adult). But summers can get above $200.
