From the column:

"The Oak Park Trails Homeowners Association, which has staged two rallies against the project already, says the location is a poor fit for the neighborhood, and will invite traffic and strangers."

Why in the HELL would anyone drive all the way to Katy to save a few bucks? Please, Glucorious, enlighten me.

Exactly what "strangers" are going to drive all the way to that wannabe Sugar Land where football is almighty, the schools are incredibly overrated (trust me, I deal with Katy schools all the time) and whose claim to fame is Renee Zellweger was born there?

Quite frankly, this is how I clearly perceive Katy. Saying "boo hoo, strangers might come" does nothing to alleviate my negative perceptions of Katy.

And people wonder why I despise the suburbs.

Get over yourselves, Katy residents. Be good Republicans and let the free market work!

I'm not sure, but can you read? Maybe you should have quoted me or gotten a couple of new glasses. Now you may utter something about the actual topic.

Yes, Katy is too elite for the likes of Aldi.

I percieve there to be nothing wrong with an Aldi store going in there.

What's your point? Too bad I never even objected to the Aldi store, but that must have been difficult to understand. And I honestly don't give a **** where they build it, but the matter of fact is that the vast majority of wal mart stores and other discount stores turn into ghettos sooner or later. They'll look nice for a couple of years, but then it's going downhill fast. If I knew that's a problem for prospective buyers and I had a $$$$ home, I would not like it, either. This is nothing new. Of course this dosen't mean Aldi will be the same way.But who am I telling all this - didn't you mention you were a realtor? You should know how this works.

And if wal-mart maintained their stores better, and if they didn't always turn them into ghetto wal-marts,we wouldn't have this discussion.

Today's couponers (even a Kardashian?) take saving seriously

Speaks for itself.

Just look at the wal-marts. They are almost all ghetto. Can't blame people for thinking it's gonna turn into some ghetto store. Don't be prejudiced. Everybody shops there, Modster...

Funny,
their argument makes it sound as if Aldi's is going to be a professional sport stadium.

Eh these are not high $$$$ homes. According to HAR, the median appraised value is $150k. A nice enough neighborhood, but not ritzy-ditzy.

The front to the neighborhood is a blank piece of land on Mason Rd (the main drag for Katy). Anything could have been put there. Maybe another convenience store, a pawn shop, Chinese takeout, or like my old neighborhood, a mega-firecracker shop.

I think Aldi is a nice fit actually. It beats a half-empty strip mall. The neighborhood is fronted by Mason Rd, not a bucolic lakeside. Worried about strangers? EVERYONE in Katy drives Mason Rd. Especially Cinco Ranch residents (ie not "ghetto")

This is just another example on NIMBY (not in my backyard). Everyone wants things, just not where they live. Trust me, my Katy neighbors only want to live around other houses (and only houses more expensive than their own). They'd love for shops and services to be super convenient, but just not next to THEIR house.

I look forward to Aldi. I think many in Katy will too.

While crccrbcrgv makes some good points, I don't think this is limited to suburbs. What about the Heights area residents protesting the Walmart? And the West U residents with the high rise?

And leave it to the I'm-too-good Memorial snobs to come in and use this as another opportunity to burb-bash, LOL.
