I have a fairly large backward in West Houston and when it rains heavily about a quarter of it has standing water for a long time after the rain stops. I have ben told that French drains are the way to go but a a better method is to build a gradient using soil. Are there any contractors you would recommend to consult and implement a fix ?

Thank You

Most landscapers can tackle either project. Ask for bids from the yard men in your neighborhood.

I posted this very recently on a nearly identical thread.

Houston Drains | Blalock Landscaping & Drainage

This guy did some grading, and drains on a house I sold. The buyer knew him, and I paid for it outside of closing. I was very impressed.

I had this guy come out and give me price for putting drain from back yard to front to handle poor drainage between my house and neighbors. I was going to have him do it. I wrote one more letter to the corporate office of the builder to complain. I came home yesterday to a pipe with 8 drains installed in between the two houses! Saved me about $1200 bucks

Give him a call though he seemed reasonable and was really nice.

Yup, almost any landscaper can install french drains.

I had similar issues, the backyard would remain very wet with standing water after it rained. Strategically placed drains help alleviate the issues, also tied all the down spouts of the gutters into the system. Everything runs to the curb.

Try Monarch Landscaping and Avant-Garden: monarchlandscaping.com or Landscaping, Pavers, Avant Garden Landscape, Houston, Texas, TX (The two are affiliated.)

We live in NW Houston and had similar issues so last summer had French drains installed and our property regraded. We used Monarch/AG because they handle the landscaping for our neighborhood and over the years we've been quite impressed with their work and crews. They drew up long term plans for our property that we are implementing in phases as budget allows. Very professional, very knowledgeable, turn-key service.

Got wildly different quotes from Blalock and an other company(lower) called "Living Trees and Shrubs". Anyone heard of them ? Someone from Monarch took down my information last week but no one has called back yet.

You need to call the guy I gave you...he was very reasonable. I called Blalock too....he didn't really even want to come out, just gave me a ball park figure over the phone.

I ended up calling Alex, he came over and gave me a good price and I also found out that he does the yard work for Rummel Creek elementary which is by my house (good confidence booster). I had him do the work this weekend and so far everything looks great. Thanks for the recommendation
