Can we get a sticky post that is strictly for people looking to relocate to Houston??

I am sooo sick and tired of seeing every other post being about relocating to Houston from [Insert City Here].

Seriously, these posts need to be tamed.

Thanks!

That'd be a great idea, if not for the fact that this is primarily a relocation forum.

Default The OP is not so far off...

Perhaps the OP is not familiar with the origins of CD, but I have to agree, if I were new and came to these forums, I would not associate them with real estate, or relocation information only.

No proof here, but I think the original vision the creators had was for real estate and relocation information, but CD has since morphed into something much more. The fact that there are so many categories besides cities and states is a testament to the success of CD.

The charter, if you will, has been outgrown and the Houston forum is not just for relocating questions anymore. That said, Houston is in the spolight at the moment because much of the rest of the country is hurting and those of us fortunate to have good paying, secure jobs don't notice so much; so those relocation posts will not go away. I don't think it is a burdensome either.

Thread fail.
It's a relocation forum.
What exactly would you put in this "sticky" that would pertain to everyone's needs?

If anything, what needs to be tamed is the posts in this forum that don't really have anything to do with houston specifically, like remodeling questions for instance. City-Data has a bunch of other sub-categories like House, Automotive, Cooking, etc.

Actually I think a sticky is a great idea. But I agree this is sort of where people are supposed to come for information like that.

I think it would be GREAT for a sticky to have the INFORMATION Houstonians need in order to help the evermore relocation threads. Most people coming here from other parts of the nation don't get how big and spread out it is here, so we get bogged down with "I'm looking for a safe neighborhood with good schools - where should I live?" threads.

So have the sticky be something like:

Looking to Relocate to Houston and Need Some Help?
Answer these questions, and we can quickly help you pinpoint the best area of town for you.
- Where will you be working?
- What's your budget?
- Are you looking for a house to rent/own, or an apartment?
- Do you have transportation or do you require public transportation?
- How important are schools/Do you have school aged children?
- Do you prefer a more diverse community, or more conservative community?

And anything else regular posters here want to add that would be helpful for a new poster to answer so we can quickly help them figure out the best area of town for them.

And delete every thread asking what my electric bill will be. Or just delete my posts since that seems to be the norm.
