I have a degree in finance and I worked as an analyst for a consulting company for a few years.

I've been trying to get into the oil and gas industry but I haven't had any luck. I've spoken with 2 placement agencies but they haven't found anything yet.

The recruiters told me that I'll probably have to start off in the mail room or do data entry for a few months before I can get one of the positions that requires a degree (analyst/technician roles). I'm ok with that, I just want to get started as soon as possible.

Suggestions? Thanks

I hope you aren't paying for that advice. I myself am looking to break in as well after two years experience as a financial analyst with an insurance company, but I see tons of posts for financial analysts.

With two years in consulting I'd hope you wouldn't have to work in the mail room. Best of luck in your search.

I've been trying to....what agencies did you use? And did you have to pay for their services?

I am in the banking industry and have been for about 10 years, but have found myself completely bored and wanting to try something different.

Mail room? I cant believe that was a serious recommendation. Keep looking, and enter your resume into the websites of companies you are interested in...Shell, Schlumberger, Chevron etc.

Also if you are pro energy, vote the POTUS out in November. He hasn't done the industry any favors...unless you work for Goldman Sachs.

Goldman Sachs produces alot of methane, unfortunately it's above the HFL in their offices and thus too rich to burn.

You are an analyst with no experience in oil and gas? I am assuming you don't have an MBA otherwise you would have mentioned it. Reality is people with such a description are a dime a dozen. You can continue to try using the tools mentioned here but unless you can network through someone you know, your odds of success are low. My suggestion is go back to school and get your MBA. UT-Austin has a very good energy focused program within their MBA school.

I used Accounttemps and Primary Services, both of these agencies are free.

Thanks for the responses

I'm considering going back to school for my mba, but it wouldn't be until 2013-2014

1. Sell your soul to the Devil.
2. Make sure you have no ethics whatsoever.
