Hey everyone... My SO has a job offer to move down to Houston making more money then he does right now. He are considering this move because we are tired of Wyoming! I'm not sure where he will be working, but the company will be giving him a pickup and a fuel card, so we are not worried about the driving. The gentle men that offered him the job told him to stay away from the south and east sides of Houston for housing. We want to be able to bring our horses with us, so some acreage is a must! We also have a 12 month old daughter.

So any advice to a young family would be awesome!!

If you can give a housing budget you will get better answers. If you want to keep horses you will need to commute from fairly far out, probably 45 minutes plus assuming you work in the city.

If your budget is not in the millions then you're going to be far enough out of Houston proper that I don't think you'll have to worry about what side of Houston you will be, you'll just want to know where your SO is driving to on a daily basis.

Where in WY are you coming from. I spent some time in Evanston and know alot of people from there and Rock Springs.

OP - What's wrong with Wyoming? You only said that you were "tired" of it. It's beautiful country up there. You won't find anything like that in the hot, humid, polluted, freeway/concrete-strewn flatlands of Houston. Would you like to trade residences? :-)

Could probably find some acreage in Alvin/Rosharron area or Dayton/Crosby area.

Lost_In_Translation------ We are in Casper.

As for the monthly budget we are not sure on exact prices at the moment as his wages would change. Right now tho I would say 1500 a month, but we will would rather buy!

Sunderpig=------ Nothing is wrong with Wyoming!!! Just want a change of pace. He grew up here and I have grew up in South Dakota. We have always wanted to head south and this job came up so we might take it. We will end up back here in Wyo as his family owns a ranch, so we will come back and take over when they are ready!

Agree with the above advice. I'd look at the Richmond, Rosenberg, and Fulshear areas if I was coming to Houston with horses.
