I was recently offered the opportunity to be a door to door salesman for a home security company by the name Security Networks True protection. The internship would take place in the Houston area in homes and subdivisions surrounding loop 610. I am a 20 year old handsome and ambitious young college student and the money that is available with this internship is hard to pass up. If you have any knowledge about this please share it with me. I am trying to make a final decision for what kind of work I want to do this summer. Thanks and God bless.

Why don't you drive around some subdivisions you think you would be targeting and see how many houses don't already have an alarm company. Assume everyone who has an alarm is probably happy with their current company and doesn't care to go through the hassle of switching. How many houses does that leave? Figure 2 out of 10 houses that don't already have an alarm sign with you. Does that still bring in the good money?

Be prepared to come in contact with a lot of angry people. Door to door sales people aren't welcome in many places.

You probably will run the risk of being shot and no I am not kidding. People are reluctant to open the door to anyone. You would be best advised to find a job other than door to door sales.

Been there, done that in my younger days (not alarms), don't believe the money hype, but at least its a job and you'll learn a few things.

Anybody that brags about "being blessed" on the internet .... I think you know the rest.

Skip that job. Those companies just try to exploit young kids that don't any better. Get into other marketing / sales jobs that are better than that line of work. ESP if you say you're an ambitious young college student. Not much of a learning experience doing that stuff.

I'm suspicious of a lot of these door to door alarm sales people. Last winter we had two of them literally bang on our door at 8:30PM (well past dark) on a Friday night trying to sell ADT. It made me wonder if they were really selling ADT, or just casing houses to see who wasn't home.

And just a few days ago this ADT sales guy got arrested for sexually assaulting a woman in her home. Don't let these people in your house! Link:

Find a real internship. When I was in college I answered an ad for an internship... ended up being for those stupid cutco knives. They tried to get me (and the other dozen or so) young, college kids to buy a set of knives (that's right, they don't loan you a set for demonstrations) to use to sell to family and friends. I got up after sitting there for an hour and walked out laughing at them.

If you can't find a real internship in your area of study, then find a manual labor job. You'll make good money and be motivated to do well in school so that you don't have to do that kind of job for the rest of your life.
