If you go by projected economic growth for 2011-2016, Houston is #1.

Austin excelling among Texas cities in enticing Calif. firms - Austin Business Journal

Apple Inc. tentatively selected the state capital this month for a new $304 million campus that will add more than 3,600 employees over the next decade. The decision by Cupertino, Calif.-based Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) was boosted by a $21 million incentive from Gov. Rick Perry’s Texas Enterprise Fund, which is designed to attract high-tech companies.

I don't know why they have us as #4 - If you look at the numbers we are #3, then Dallas, and Austin at #1. I assumed they didn't rank - only listed - because the numbers are higher.

My guess is that they only mentioned Houston because the (easily available) data would have made it too obvious what they were doing: catering to the adolescent urge to associate oneself with whatever one's peer group considers cool. I like Austin, but I find it weird (pun intended) that feeling that means I must totally dismiss the idea that Houston has anything good about it.

Poor Austin. The last thing their limited infrastructure needs is more growth.

Yeah, I also noticed they had the same population numbers for Houston and Dallas. Gee, is it possible that this wasn't a carefully researched, peer-reviewed scientific paper??

They seem to be pretty good at building toll roads.
