Name one place that offers balloon rides in Houston. I've never seen that in decades of living in this rat trap of a city. It would probably be an FAA violation of the airspace anyway, with all the planes and helicopters that travel across the "sitty" on a daily basis.

Obviously Houston has a much better job market than Las Vegas. However, to argue that there are more fun things to do in Houston than Las Vegas is not very realistic.

I'LL BUY THAT FOR A DOLLAR!

Gosh, I miss living in Vegas.

The canyons, proximity to LA, San Diego and Southern Utah... Hiking in the Valley of Fire, the trails on Mount Charleston. If I had a business that could be anywhere, LV is a great choice. Cheap housing, interesting people...

OP- have you ever visited Katy or Houston? That Texas friendliness is a bit more present outside such a big metropolitan area... It's not small town Texas.

Any town or city is what you make of it. Vegas didn't fail you...many people succeed there. And the heat factor here is higher than Vegas. I'm not talking temperature...I sure miss the desert climate!

Anyhow, folks are right about nightlife and nice things to do....but that is all 15 miles plus from Katy, which is a bedroom suburb. If you are looking for cheap places to live, and finding work not an issue, there are cheaper areas in Texas. Just suggesting you may want to visit first and make your own impressions.

And for everyone who has never lived in Vegas....we NEVER went to the Strip unless guests insisted. People think all we do is pole dance and gamble? Sheesh. That is the same as saying that I should have expected to move here to Houston and everyone wears cowboy boots and spits tabacky??

MFAH | The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston

This is what I had in mind when I mentioned cultural activities; 30-45 minute drive from Cinco Ranch. It seems that I couldn't visit a decent art museum in Vegas like I had done in L.A. during my frequent visits out west--just gambling and pestered with sex ads.

There's more vacant/empty business real estate then a chinese buffet out here in Vegas. Infact, alot of businesses are going out of business including dental, retail, restaurants and even casinos. It's far from anything you might of experienced when you use to live here. Nearly all the state's residents are umemployment or sucking up what's left of the beatup/broken system. Even my own brother who's an engineer said you couldn't pay him any amount of money to want to live here...LMAO! and that's after he took a vacation here. Put short, it's a great place to visit but not to live. I've got tuff skin so if you can make it in Vegas you can make it anywhere including Katy/Houston, TX of all places i can assure you. What didn't kill me made me stronger over the years living here. Just think, i wrote my own check and never relied on a single penny from the state of Nevada. If that was the case i would be so dumb founded, broke and clueless trying to get that one job opening for an entry position that 500+ other unemployeed applicants are fighting for. No thanks i'll pass on all of it. Vegas doesn't cater to the masses like other major cities i've lived in. Infact males in general make 15% less annually compared to other males in any other given state. Good, bad i'm the guy who's winning! screw vegas! Knowledge is power! Knowing is half the battle now.

I'm closing this for a while. According to the //www.city-data.com/forumtos.html its is okay to post that you don't like aspects of a city. Thinking something or somewhere is boring is not a violation of these terms.
