My wife is from Barranquilla. She has been in the US for six years now and has not gotten over being homesick. Of course, after living in Bogota for a year prior to moving to B/quilla myself for four years, I understand where she's coming from. I definitely prefer the atmosphere and the culture there over any other place that I have lived or visited.

How is Houston boring? Not trying to be a smart ass but in a huge city with at least 6 million, I'm questioning anyone who just claims "its boring"

I'm sorry, but whenever I hear that a woman came from Barranquilla, Colombia I always assume she is one of those dating service girls. It's a shame that it has such a tarnished reputation.

So return .What do you expect people to say. I saw a lot of that every where in the US army when I served. Some adapt well ;other don't.

I think a number of folks that were 'really popular' in one area have trouble moving to a new place where they become kind of invisible to the masses until they establish themselves.

I think the key is trying to get involved in the new community. Its not easy, as you have to push yourself out of your comfort zone, to meet people. Especially if only one of you is working as that's where you meet a number of new people.

I can see people saying Houston (well anywhere) is boring if they moved here and are home sick, its hard to see beyond that. When you get stuck in that missing home rut you tend to not really do anything.

I moved to the US from Ireland and was like that for a short time, I found diving into hobbies helped a lot. Houston is far from boring though, plenty to do here and there is always like minded people you just need to track them down.

They have the salsa going and people are just standing outside chilling.
Dodo's chicken has great Colombian take out and it's cheap. Right next to Mi Pueblito. The owners of Dodo's are very nice and it's a family run business. The location and decoration is a bit sketchy looking, but even my small town WASPy mom eats there and loves it. ( we usually get it to go though)

Get the chicken combo. Rice, beans, arepas con queso, and the plantains are good. The yucca is okay and the salad and mixed vegetables are awful.

I know many women from Barranquilla and none of them are " dating service girls". That's a terrible thing to assume. I guess they are all drug dealers too.
