No attack on Dallas but I don't see why some Dallasites even have the nerve to think they're better than Houston!
I'm not a native Texan but also noticed this was really common among Dallas people. When the Olympic committee visited a few years ago, Dallas and Houston were both in the running for the 2012 olympics. The Dallas folks said all this bad stuff about Houston and to watch out when visiting Houston... needless to say, Houston made it to the finalists while Dallas did not.

Basically, most of the Dallas people with that attitude have no idea what they're talking about and are pretty clueless about Houston.

haha! I've spent the night in Dallas where I hooked up two girls (I was a gymnast) when I was 15 years old and never went back. Dallas is so boring that we bought a Playboy magazine.

I stayed in Mesquite again when I was about 22 and it took forever looking to beers. Such a dry town, too!

Glad to be back in Houston. Dallas will forever be our enemy...but I love you sweetheart and miss you in Rockwall! We could have been married with kids by now...oh honey...now that you are looking, I was just kidding!

houston has got the self defense and property rights laws and the guts to deal with it, but until this culture clash (and believe you me its not new orleans culture, its gang bang culture) is resolved it might be a little rough.
but i love the city. hang tough.

ROFFLMAO! And just for my inquiring minds sake, was Houston the safest, gang free city before August of 2005? What about Clinton Park, Cloverland, "Those" wards? Or, are these the places that are filled with the New Orleans people...Let's see, Houston has about what, somewhere around 2 million people. And you said about 130,000(this is added to the 2mil) are from New Orleans causing this so called Gang Bang Culture? ROFLMMFAO! That is hilarious! Houston had a helluva lotta crime llllooooooonnnnngggggg before 2 years ago. Need proof. send me a private message and we can call a few people Celebrities I know.

I don't buy this load of crap. Houston's crime was recorded to have risen 70% about a year after Katrina. It has since gone down but the evacuees did have an affect

Link provides info for 2007

Phila. leads big cities in murder rate | Philadelphia Inquirer | 06/05/2007 (broken link)

and this is for 2004 BEFORE Katrina....

Flak Magazine: Thursday's Weekly Shredder Vol. 40, 06.09.05

Here's the total crime index (reported crimes committed per 100,000 people) for America's 10 biggest cities in 2004. It omits Chicago, which uses a non-standard protocol for reporting its crime to the FBI.

1. Dallas 8,959.7 crimes per 100,000 people
2. Detroit 7,903.7
3. Phoenix 7,402.3
4. San Antonio 7,346.8
5. Houston 7,194.8
6. Las Vegas 5,838.0
7. Philadelphia 5,470.5
8. Los Angeles 4,376.0
9. San Diego 4,102.7
10. New York 2,801.6

Now, I hate to fall into that old "red state vs. blue state" fallacy, but — just for fun — let's sort the list and play with our font colors a little bit.

The Five Most Crime-Infested Big Cities

1. Dallas
2. Detroit
3. Phoenix
4. San Antonio
5. Houston

The Five Safest Big Cities

1. New York
2. San Diego
3. Los Angeles
4. Philadelphia
5. Las Vegas

COMPLETELY AGREE! H-town was much safer before the Katrina evacuees made there way over to our city. The murder rate went through the roof after the storm. I've heard New Orleans is giving housing incentives to try and lure ex-NOLA's to come back. I sure hope it works!

OK, you provide a link claiming that Philadelphia is the murder capital but then your Top 5 "safest" cities list has Phily at #4? Your top 5 lists are bogus. All crimes are not equal. The petty theft being done in Phoenix or Dallas isn't quite the same as the manslaughter and murder being done in New York and LA...
