Hi All,

Would you be able to give me any reviews/opinions on Porter, TX.

We are likely to be staying at Villas in the valley ranch for 4-6 months.

My husband will be working in Humble, so not too bad a drive for him. I won't be working.

I can't really find much info on Porter when I google, and nothing recent comes up when I search here.

It looks pretty remote, and I'm not sure if there is much there.

Thank you...

Why are you choosing Porter over Humble/Atascocita? Where in Humble he will be working? I live in Atascocita and don't know too much about Porter. I've been up there a few times. It's a small town (smaller feeling than say Humble or Atascocita). You can probably get more house for you money there. But I haven't heard great things about the schools. And it feels very much like the small backwoods/hick town I grew up in when I go there (which is why I don't go there often). I'm sure it's a decent, friendly small town. I just prefer the Atascocita area better (and there are some awesome schools here).

There is nothing to do in Porter except go to Walmart and make fun of all the white trash. You will be driving down to Kingwood or Humble to do anything.

Thanks for all your replies....

Hubby's travel company organised this for us. Oh dear. I'm not sure I feel so good about this now.

Off to tell Hubby!!

Valley Ranch is a nice enough little subdivision along the highway so you don't really have to interact with Porter at all just drive right past it to more civilized areas.

Come on now, Porter is not THAT bad. I have in-law relatives that live or lived in that area, and I can say, they've only been on Jerry Springer maybe a couple of times at the most! True story!

You can find just about anything you need in the Humble/Atascosita area, so don't worry about it. You may just have to drive a bit. I love how the apartment complex website says they are "in the Kingwood area in Porter, TX"! Welcome to the Houston area and enjoy your stay.

Porter is considered kind of a trailer park community by some.
