I am so sick and tired of individuals or business / handy man trying to e*ffing charge me an arm and a leg for such little project. I need to assemble and install 3 cabinets in my house, probably 2 hours worth of work and I got quotes from $200 to $350. Absolutely crazy. I travel too much and don't have the time to do it myself.

Can anyone recommend a reasonable and quality handy man that will charge an hourly rate or per project (granted that is not out of touch with reality)?

Thanks much....

I'm ignorant of the scope of the work, but $200 - $350 seems pretty reasonable to assemble and install 3 cabinets. And it's hard to believe it could be done in 2 hours unless you have more than one person working.

You would also have to consider their time and cost to come out to you. I know how you feel. Without seeing the job and what would be involved, I do know there can be setbacks in even the smallest of jobs and may require extra trips for hardware or materials and some problem solving, so that is also to be considered in the quotes they give.

They're not custom made cabinets and that wasn't clear in my initial post. Those are Ikea cabinets, 9 pieces/items to be assembled together with everything pre-made/ready to go, even the wall brackets. I already done 4 of them but I just don't have the time anymore. The easiest things to put together.
Most likely I will end up going back and finishing it myself.

Those are very reasonable rates. as others have said, there is travel time, gas, maybe setbacks, etc. They probably need to come by to give you a quote as well so that's added time. If they're reputable, they probably have a lot of other jobs and wouldn't want to take on jobs that are like 100 when they have orders for bigger jobs.

Let's say a 4 hours job at $300, this is $75/hour. Man I am in the wrong business

Is a mute point, all I asked is a referral rather than arguing about my opinion on the price. I know it can be done at a better rate

Why not ask them if they will do it for $X?

From my dealings with handymen, they really don't know what to charge. I have seen the same guy drastically UNDERCHARGE a bid - then OVERCHARGE the next one.

you get what you pay for. i don't know anyone who likes crooked cabinets. $350 is cheap. you are asking a guy who has invested $1000's into tools, etc. to do it cheap. if it is that much a pita, it sounds like you might end up doing it yourself anyways. you will find your search very difficult to find someone who will work by the hour. everyone i know charges by the job.

Ikea will come out and do assembly for you. Have no idea what they charge but I just bought a tv stand and noticed the service was offered as I checked out.

Wish I had paid them, damn instructions were so confusing took me 6 hours and alot of cussin every time I had to backtrack.
