Hi All
I am moving to Houston from los Angeles in a month due to work. I just signed on for a year min and will not have a car until 3-4 months from now.

I was on Google maps and I could not find a bus that services Humble from Atascocita or Kingwood. I am looking at places within 10 miles from humble, but as I cannot find any bus routes, it looks like Humble would be my only option.

Is there anywhere you can recommend to get an apt? I am open to any ideas as I've never been to Houston. I was really interested in Atascocita as it is reall
y close to my new job, close to a lake, and the rents seem affordable

also, if living in Humble is my only option, how is it? If anyone from LA can compare it to a city in LA, I would appreciate it. and last, where in humble would be the best to live in? thank you in advance!

when you say "close to a lake" what are you looking for? beach access? that is not going to be available in Atascocita. I would not get in that water, but people who have property on it do have boats/jet skis. You see that sometimes on the water there (man made reservoir)

there are no local buses serving houston suburbs. the only buses in the suburbs go from Park and Rides into the city

thank you so much for your reply. I was looking for fishing opportunities at the lake, but this is not a big deal.

its a shame about the no buses. would you know the area of Humble to recommend a location? thanks

There are places you can fish along the river near where the Highway 59 bridge crosses that are publicly accessible but you would need a car to get down there. I am not sure of any public lake access in Atascocita. If you live in Kingwood they have River Grove park which has a lake boardwalk and a boat ramp but you must be a Kingwood resident and have a K sticker to use that or they will tow your car.

Houston is different from the major California cities as many of the outlying suburbs are not served by regular buses AT ALL. Unfortunately that includes Humble. That's an unfortunate thing and will probably deter some people from moving here, I'm sure it already has.

I don't own a car, but I work downtown and live in a major business/shopping district about 10 miles west which is on several major bus lines.

Can your employer give you an allowance for a rental car?

No buses in humble and the place is kind of ghetto, I guess I'd compare it to Norwalk. You've got a mall there with walmarts and the like in that area and some decent restaurants. You can't really live in Houston without a car. I thought LA had bad public transportation until I got to Houston!

Didn't you move to Summerwood? Why are you calling Humble ghetto? Sure there are older and more run areas (just like everywhere else), but surrounding areas are nice.

Unless you want to live within the loop and restrict yourself to less than 25% of the city; you need a car in Houston especially when it comes to suburbs like Humble, TX.
