Firstly, many thanks to all the posters on this site from whom we have gleaned so much good information relating to our move across the pond this summer. In terms of housing - We are planning to live west either in Katy (Cinco Ranch) or in the vicinity. I would appreciate any specific feedback on the Long Meadow Farms subdivision where our realtor has lined up a couple of houses to view. Looks great on the web - but would appreciate any further insights. Thanks again

Welcome to Houston. I moved to Plano after retiring from the oil and gas business and living in Houston 1-2 years ago. I sold my home to a British couple in oil and gas. my home was in west Houston zip 77079. Nice area older homes but updated mine so it sold quickly as a great convenient location. Long Meadows Farms is a little ways south of I10 so your commute to most work locations will be longer than in older Cinco or other locations closer to I10 most likely (you didnt really say where you would be working). LMF is located south of 1093 I believe along the Grand Parkway or 99 so I dont believe it is in Katy schools but not sure the school district. That may not matter to you if you do not have kids but if you buy it can impact resale. LMF is a newer community than Cinco. An alternative to consider is Cross Creek Ranch which is further west but somewhat closer to I10 so the commute might be about the same but in Katy Schools.

Good luck with your move .. there is a large British/French/international community in west Houston. My neighborhood in 77079 is 25% asian. Its hot in Houston but a great city to work in and see the arts and enjoy a mild winter with great people and food.

Correction my former neighborhood per the census data is only 10% Asian vs my 25% estimate.

Long Meadow Farms is a nice development, but is a bit far out down 99. Have you looked into Fieldstone, which is right across the street from Long Meadow Farms?
