So, my girlfriend and a friend of hers are wanting to move into a house in the Heights. I work near IAH and don't really want to move down there but that is a discussion for another time. Anyway, they found a house near on Pecore a couple of blocks east of Studewood. I have only been in the area for a year and have lived up in the burbs all of that time rarely going inside the loop. Is this a decent area? I know the heights is trendy but I have heard that it borders some areas that are not the best place to be after dark. Any thoughts on this area?

Second question. If you were me, how would you choose to drive to work from this location? I work on Rankin near the Hardy but am kind of toll adverse. Thanks for any response you can provide

The area where they found the house is fine, though Pecore is a well-trafficked road so they may have more noise from the traffic than other parts of the Heights. The Heights in general is a safe area but it does have some issues with petty crime -- mostly burglaries during the day in empty houses. If you're on Facebook, you can check the Inner Loop Crime Alerts and The Heights Life page for more details. But just like anywhere, take the right precautions and your girlfriend will be fine. In general, the area is gentrifying pretty quickly and the area is pretty lively with walkers and bikers as well as our constable patrol.

I actually used to work on Rankin near the Hardy Toll Road and I made the trip up I-45 to Greens Rd and then cutting over to Rankin. Pecore goes to 45 so that would be the easiest way to get on the highway. I usually paid the toll in the morning on Hardy so I could make it to work on time, especially if there was an 8 am meeting (I always felt I-45 was a bit unpredictable, even going in reverse). Coming home, I'd take Greens to I-45, but it could take 40 to 50 minutes coming home even with the reverse commute. In the morning, the route I described took about 35 to 40 minutes.

I take the Hardy in the morning too. You just can't trust 45.
