That's a really tough question. Anywhere from $80 for the cheapo stuff, to $150 for the nice custom stuff and everything in between.

You can buy a new home here in Houston for as little as $42-43/per square ft. Obra Homes would be a good bet if you wanted to consider rock bottom
but new. Perhaps better advice would be to pick up either an inventory home or a foreclosure. There are many incentives being offered to realtors these days by builders who have excess inventory and need to move it. Remember that almost all new homes in the lower price ranges will DEpreciate for the first few years, so consider carefully.

Building-cost.net is a good source for calculating building costs. It asks specific questions regarding quality, square footage, room size, city, state & zip etc. The results will show you the estimated costs for materials, labor & equipment from beginning to the final clean up. I hope that helps.

Prices have been going up for all construction material and they will be going up after the new year again, so any prices indicated here will be obsolete. I would contact 4-5 general contractors and receive bids to get more of an accurate price per sq ft, based on what you are building.
