Yikes.Number 6 is getting a little close but yeah show this to people coming to the Houston board for recs on areas to live.Everyone and their mama recs 1 and 2 like they're going out of style and 19 and 20.

18 is no surprise. Gulfton, Sharpstown, Fondren Southwest- Braeswood. They're not too highlighted but Meyerland and Westbury too.

Hmm....live wherever you want but be aware and don't fool people like living in or that close to the Loop is Mayberry.

This is Houston. Crime happens everywhere but a lot of criminals don't venture too far from home.

yeah but some of those places like area 19 and 20 have seen tremendous growth as well, and when you add literally tens of thousands of people in a year, you are going to see crime go up.
the others like 1 and 2 cant really use that excuse.

houston seems to have its up years in crime, and its down years. this must be an up year.

Could be because it's an election year. It's been ugly so far and it's only going to get worse

numbers/maps like these are so ambiguous, and have to be taken with a grain of salt. There are no concrete numbers included with that graph.

plus, having an increase, doesnt always translate to having HIGH crime.
if you have 1 murder in a year, and next year you have 2, you just had a 100% increase. whereas the next town over went from 200 murders to 250, and still only ended up with a 25% increase, even though they had 50 times more extra murders.

putting out a graph to say town A had a 100% increase in murders makes town A look like a ghetto, when in reality its still extremely safe.

Have a relative retired from HPD and he has always said (which we all know) "Crime goes where the people go." So as these areas are heavily populated with multi-family dwellings mixed in with single family dwellings - you have a lot of people condensed tightly in some of these areas. Others are more affluent areas that people are clamoring to move to and the thugs know that people in these areas have nice things. Not sure about the actual numbers making up this map but it sort of matches what I see on the evening news every day.

WoW, you people are totally clueless! You sit here and come up with excuses to justify why crime exist in certain parts of the city. Well, if you would DEMAND more from your Mayor Porker and your inept police chief, you would make some progress. The only time you see cops is to let traffic go at major corporations! How on Earth do you pay taxes here when you get so little in return? Every community I lived in raises 6 kinds of hell when a break takes place, not in Houston ... residents just sit there and take it, they do nothing ... and are "shocked" when it happens to them or their neighbors ... watch the news tonight and you will see new idiots "shocked" and "I can't believe it happened here" comments they say, well what do you expect? You are the most submissive residents EVER! DO SOMETHING and DEMAND MORE from the officials you elect and pay tax to!
