It's not necessarily a "vacation" thing. I mean it is, but, residents would make use of it as well.

Many major cities around the world lack major theme parks.

Texas already has tons of theme parks, and really the only reason to go to San Antonio is to enjoy Sea World/Six Flags/Schlitterbahn. I would rather more everyday entertainment. More boardwalks, an improved Buffalo Bayou waterfront, more bars and clubs downtown, more parks like Hermann and Disco Green, more street front shopping downtown....and most of all I want casinos.

Shid, San Antonio and Fort Worth can keep their theme parks, gimme more Adult themed entertainment. Casinos! Casinos! Casinos
I agree with everything else except casinos. no. no casinos. The idea that people gamble money they don't have away.... all day, everyday.....

six flags has its own money problems - yes including the one in SA.

you dont invest money into something like an amusement park when one couldnt survive here in the past, there is a major one so close by, and houston has money problems elsewhere. amusement parks just dont make enough money. if some private company wants to try they can - but most likely theyd fail and we'd have to go through it all over again

houston could easily spend money to up entertainment and tourism without risking an amusement park deal
Not every amusement park in the country is owned and operated by Six Flags. There's King's Dominion in Richmond, VA that's not even under the ownership of SF. Now, i don't know how they're doing financially, but they've been around for yearssss. There still seems to be a market for them.

Six Flags has been in poor operation since the 90s. It wasn't limited to the Houston market either. I don't think how AstroWorld ended up had anything to do with the consumer or patronage here. I believe the problem was with SF itself.

Lastly, there is an influx of transplants from other regions coming into Houston. I strongly believe that alone would support some kind of amusement park, on a consistant basis for awhile.

I was thinking the same thing.

At the end of it's run, Astroworld was a mis-managed dump. I loved the place when I went there as a kid. A decade, or two later, when we took our kids there......it was a rathole. Not to mention the scumbag's running amuck, as well. They chose not to invest in updating it, or even try to keep it appearing fresh.....and in the end they cut their own throat.

Obviously. a well run modern park could do well here.... just will take folks with a lot of cash, and a bit of a gunslinger mentality to make it happen.

"just because your friends jump off a bridge, does that mean you have to do it too??!"

Really? You think that building the porn industry, and increasing mob activity by bringing in casinos is a good idea? Yeah, those are better things to be known for than say, a great theme park.
