California is as blue as any state can be. The fact that they elected a republican governor (in name only) does not change the fact that the state is governed by democrats.

California is one of the least business friendly states. They have the highest taxes, have a state income tax, are not a right work to state, and have the most stringent environmental regulations of any state.

Its very difficult to make anything in California. Even farmers/ranchers/vineyards have a very difficult time wading through the copious volumes of state regulation. The companies that are able to survive in California are those that design/program/etc - the actual manufacturing of just about everything is moved out of state where its more affordable.

Your business goes where the talent is....even if the talent is somewhere inhospitable to you...If your business does not need talent, but rather just needs people to do a menial job, then you relocate somewhere more business friendly.

Jobs go where they are wanted and where cost are reasonable and the business climate if positive. Tx is winning in this formula and I believe the ones coming here for work from say CA understand why the jobs are here and how overboard CA regs got and wont want it to happen here... Diversty is a great thing....brings in new ideas, key is being wise enough to select the winning ideas and cast aside the losing ideas.

What amazes me is politicians who want to mimic Ca or Euro zone regs where jobs are even more scarce than in the worst parts of the US. We cant afford to look so short term or short sighted to through good long term policies out in favor of change for change sake. We need to examine the change and make sure we want to go where it will surely take us... both the good and the unintended consequences... I favor a weak fed gov so the states can go different ways and we can see what works and what doesnt without all jumping off the cliff if we go nationally the same direction ...

Welcome to CA and IL and NYC transplants ....come on down to Tx!

A lot of people move to Houston just for a job. Then they live here and realize it's not as bad as they thought, and that they actually like a lot of things about it. The ones who end up having families tend to want to really stay because it's a great place to afford to have a family with a very good quality of life. Anyways, I'm only in my mid 20's, but that's the general story line I've seen from my vantage point.

Houston is seldom a destination of choice, but those who come end up staying b/c despite the heat its a great place to be.

I wouldn't exactly call Arnold Schwarzenegger a "republican". That guy was as left as they come, he was married to a Kennedy for god sakes.

Sounds like the job creators are doing pretty good in California,
why isn't the "trickle down" working then?

Some people around here are a little brainwashed with the whole "Liberal California bad, conservative Texas good" BS

Its regulations that are preventing good jobs for the middle class - not lack of people willing to invest.

Sounds like an over simplification to me..... when gov takes too much of the spoils of success and wastes it with bad policies spending, there may not be enough left to trickle any where. So why are CA jobs coming here? Any idea Dopo? Or do you just prefer to sling typical policial over simplification and not address what to change? Does it make you feel better?

Really,
because regulations also create lots of jobs
those companies have to buy lots of equipment to comply with regulations (for example, in the oil industry)

Of course, that is why the GOP trotted him out to speak at the 2004 convention.

Do you actually know anything about his politics or are you just basing that comment on who he married?
