MUD isn't the only thing you need to worry about if there is no MUD tax. There's also something else called WIC that can be just as high as a MUD. I wished I picked a house in Pearland with land. God I hate taxes and cookie cutter neighborhoods.

You'd have to go a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG way to pay more notional, aggregate taxes in Texas than in Georgia.

Ronnie, your also using worst case scenario!

Texas sales tax rate is actually only 6.25%

"The Texas state sales tax rate is currently 6.25%. Depending on local municipalities, the total tax rate can be as high as 8.25%"

True, but even then it compares well. We actually drove 1 mile for a lower sales tax on a mattress once. LOL

Coming from Georgia, it felt like "no income tax" was offset by higher fees for everything else- - starting with property taxes and insurance (particularly with the crazy high deductibles) Secret is to make lots of $ and resist buying an expensive home.

My wife & I just sold our house in Connecticut, put our stuff in storage, drove to Texas and are renting in the Woodlands. We found a Perry home in the Harmony section of Spring that we just love for $365K; but when I had the realtor calculate our annual property tax it was a whopping $12K/year. I think that is OUTRAGEOUS. Right now, it looks like we will be heading to Florida; the taxes there are about 1/3 of what they are here.

You're getting warm. Also, these people piling in are quickly driving up housing values. A few years ago, the high property tax rate was offset by properties being generally undervalued. Not anymore.

No, it doesn't. It used to happen in construction offices and title companies, but not even there anymore.

In Florida the cost per sq ft is higher than Texas. At the end of the day you will end up paying the same. Less tax in Florida but smaller house. Larger cheaper house in texas but higher taxes.
