Taste of Texas has been my favorite so far but I have heard only good reviews of Killens. I can't believe I haven't been there considering it's about 5 minutes away. Perry's famous pork chop is by far my favorite chunk of meat in Houston, we go to the one in Friendswood.

I can't seem to make a good steak, so all you folks who say you make the best please share your tips.

Vic and Anthony's is my favorite, among the places I've tried. Killen's is highly reviewed, but I was pretty unimpressed the time I went there. Maybe they had an off night, but our group of 4 each ordered different cuts of steak, and none of us would go back.

Perry's is my favorite. Mo's a close second. Pappas and III Forks are probably next in line.

Pappas is very good and Vic and Anthony's is also top notch. I think both are superior to Mortons and Smith & Wollensky. Anyone have an opinion on Sullivans they are owned by the same company that owns Del Frisco's and I have always enjoyed DF so I thought I migh try Sullivans.

The best restaurant cooked steak I've had in Houston has been at Del Frisco's in the Galleria.

This is their 10 oz. NY Strip cooked medium rare with garlic mashed potatoes:

However, with a little practice, you really can cook an excellent steak at home for a lot less money than you would spend going out. This is a 10 oz. ribeye cooked medium with blue cheese on top using the Alton Brown method:

What is the Alton Brown method?

Biggest tip I can give... let the steak get to room temperature before cooking.
