Hi there

My husband and I currently live in Northshore (i10 and Wallisville area) and this area is just rough, but was what we could afford a year ago. Now that we can afford more, we want somewhere better for us and our tw small kids.

So, I am hoping to get some advice from you all here.

Our limitations:
2+ bedrooms
$690 or less/mo
Safe area

...that's really it. We would like somewhere that isn't run down, but that would haut be a perk.

Currently we are planning to go view apartments near crestdale in west Houston near Gessner and Clay Rd. is that area at least better than Northshore? They have townhomes which would be just great for us.

We are fine to move pretty much anywhere within 40min of my husbands work place at Lockwood and i10. Schools are not an issue as we plan to homeschool and our oldest is only two years old, anyway.

Thank you for any suggestions you can give. The only advice we can get otherwise is from police officers in the family, but they don't seem to get that our budget can't be changed and we just need somewhere better than where we are now. Progress, even if slow progress, is better than nothing.

If I were you, I'd engage an apartment locator, give them your requirements and let them do the work. Then go out and hit the locations they recommend. They're free to you.

Just my $.02,

Ronnie

I would say that's not a very good idea, considering where your husband works. I'm sure there are better apartments/townhomes in the east side without having to move to the complete opposite side of town. The traffic on I-10 is not pleasant most of the time. Hopefully some east-siders will come along and give you more advice.

EADO has be going through its revitalization and many high end apartments, town homes and lofts have been popping up with rents starting in the $1,200 price range.

I'm sorry I can't help, but I commend you for trying to do what is better for your family. It is refreshing to see normal working people trying to make a better life for their children.

Beto, like I said, our price limit is $690-700/month so $1,200 is definitely higher than we can afford. Thank you for the suggestion, though.

Thank you. Just doing the best that we can without going into constant debt!

Do you know anything about the area otherwise? Anything we have seemn on the East side hasn't been in our price range unless it is North Shore or Galena park, and we are aiming to get out of those areas. Is Spring Branch a safer area? DH is fine with driving the extra time if it means a better situation for us.

But if he is using more gas to drive, couldn't you pay more in rent, to a certain extent?

The only reason we don't want to do that is because we can cut out gas money on weekends if needed to save money some months if it is tight. We cannot alter the amount of rent we must pay.

I found an apartment complex at Hollister near 290. This area was suggested as being a better area. What is ya'll's take on it?
