This fusion food truck crap has to stop. Bul gogi and tortillas just do not go together. It isnt cool. Focus on good food, not a gimmick.

Food Trucks Deliver Creative Destruction | GOPlifer | a Chron.com blog

I'm all for the competition, and its a much cheaper entry point for an entrepreneur.

Actually they go together extremely well when done properly.

Wow - I'm pretty shocked this is even a debate.

Unfair competition? Seriously? This is Texas, right? I mean, the state that prides itself on being pro-business, anti-regulation. Someone figured out a low-overhead way of providing food - that should be celebrated not whined about. Besides, brick and mortar restaurants have a pretty big advantage in providing air conditioning, which, last time I checked, in Houston was pretty valuable.

Unsanitary? This is a complete specious argument. Hold them to the same standards as restaurants within reasonable limits so long as health, safety and welfare of the public are not compromised. This is a complete non issue.

Terrorism? I don't even. . .what is this?

Look at food trucks as you would any new amenity - hey, it's another choice. You can go, you can not go. Up to you - but it's nice to have the choice? Food trucks can quickly add a little street life where there was none before. The market will decide which are the winners and losers. I sure as hell wouldn't want City Hall making those decisions for me.

Really - I'm floored by this. Strangely disheartened, though I don't even live there. I thought Houston was more eclectic and more enlightened than this. This is a debate meant for Dallas. Really, you're better than this. Please.

I'm all for them. I'm also in favor of more food trucks in the southeast that aren't Mexican/Hispanic.

I've yet to hear a good argument against food trucks. If restaurants have an issue with the competition, too bad. Maybe they should up the ante so they won't "lose" customers.

You're prolly trolling, and even if you're not, go jump in a kerosene fire full of disease.

I'm all for it as we'll,but the whole idea of cheap, fast and delicious food on wheels is crushed when a a fancy colorful meal on wheels entrepreneur starts charging 8 friggin bucks for a Korean burrito, a South American torta costing 6 bucks or super special empanadas that cost 5 bux a pop....that's not cheap. And, in many cases, doesn't taste like a slice of heaven to justify those costs. Lets get back to the basics: cheap, fast and damn good. I'll be damned if I have to actually drive to a truck then pay more than I could eat at a sit down restaurant where the food is not only better, but cheaper too.

Until then, I'll continue to eat at the Mexican food trucks that cater to the workers building homes in the new neighborhood I live in.

In Texas, what we claim to believe is not always what our government does. (i.e. casinos)

Then don't buy from the trucks that sell disappointing, expensive food.

Also,

This will probaly change your mind about food truck, what if they don't pay taxes? Sure, they have to pay tax, but they maybe skirting a portion of it because most foodie truck gets a lot more cash transactions. These cash can disappear without a trace because you can go from $0 revenue (off day) to minimal revenue (stationed next to Pappasitos) then to maximum revenue (stationed next to Texans home game). It is so volatile that you really can't determine how much they make. Whatever the case, I eat from food truck by paying cash, but I just hope they earn their bucks rightfully.
