Can anyone tell me about Memorial Northwest? I have looked up some houses in that area, and it seems like you get a lot more house for the money. I am also looking at schools, and kingwood seems to have great schools. Is Klein high school a good school? How far is Memorial Northwest from Texas Med Ctr?

I was also looking at Memorial NW and chose Kingwood. The commute to Texas Medical Center from Kingwood is much easier than Memorial NW. I also preferred the look and feel of Kingwood. With that said, Memorial NW is very nice and a great value. From what I understand Klein High is a very good school.

The schools in Memorial Northwest are all really good. Theiss elem, the middle school on Theiss mail and Klein High. They are good in Kingwood as well.

I do think Kingwood would be an easier commute to the medical center. I think Memorial Northwest gives you a little more variety/access to various amenities such as restaurants, shopping, etc.

Some of the houses in Memorial Northwest don't have that great of "finishes" on the interior or exterior. There was one builder in there responsible for a lot of those really larger ones and they are not the best built homes, plus they are ridiculously close together, (5000 to 7000 sq ft houses with literally 6' between them). It is, however, a very stable neighborhood with a strong HOA, great schools, sandwiched between the more expensive neighborhoods of Gleannloch Farms and Champion Forest/Falls at Champions.

Kingwood is a master planned community so the overall area has the order and sanity to the development that the area around Klein lacks. Of course once you step outside the official boundaries of the "livable forest" it's just the same. My biggest objection to Kingwood is if the restaurant or store you want isn't right there in Kingwood or Humble, then you have a ways to go for other options. Even though 59 makes the drive easier, it just seems more removed over there.

I think you would be happy with either one, it would depend mostly on what individual house would you like the best.

Default Memorial Northwest vrs Kingwood

Memorial Northwest is an older neighborhood with a good demographic mix. Younger families with children and older retired. The great majority of the lots in the subdivision are 10,000 sf give or take a little. There are a few that are larger, 12,000 to 14,000 and a very few in the 8,000 range. The home sizes range mostly from 2500 to 4500 with a few larger. The Klein school district is one of the top rated in the state. The elementary in the subdivision, Theiss, is an exemplary school and the high school, Klein, is "Recognized". I believe Doerre, the intermediate, is also recognized. If you need more info about this area, let me know.

59N is a lot easier drive than 45N. But that's all I know about either place.

It doesn't mean the commute will be any shorter or easier. There are really only three roads out of Kingwood, and they're all as nasty as Hormel chili during rush hour. If a person were to live in the back of Kingwood and work downtown, over half of that person's commute would be in Kingwood itself.

This thread is from 2007 so OP is unlikely to see it. Might be informative for others tho I suppose.

I agree that if you work downtown and commute during rush hour you wouldn't want to live in the back of Kingwood. However there are lots of Kingwood areas with fast access to 59 and not everyone works traditional hours.
