A reboot for River Oaks project - Houston Chronicle

Something completely new and extremely original on its way in Houston! This new project will have "high end retailers" along with a walkable plaza area with outdoor seating and "fantastic new restaurants". Theres nothing like it in Houston, with a movie theater that combines the movie watching experience with a dining element all this with a "Texas feel", something us Houstonians know and crave.

The new location will be not too far from the Galleria along Westheimer. It will demolish some old apartments and will really add a new vibe to the area. Its designed to appeal to affluent residents in the area, which will love to have this in their neighborhood.

The city has also given the developer $19million in tax breaks because the city assumes that the retail shops and restaurants/bars, will make up that lost tax revenue. Our open and friendly business climate hard at work!

All in all another great, fun, totally new place to spend a Friday and Saturday night!

Seems like it will be a nice development. However I do wish it would be developed how it was originally planned with the 4 high rises.

If it ends up anything like City Centre the main problem will be parking.

I thought you guys hated this upscale fancy smancy stuff? What gives? This will simply drive rents higher and make the inner loop even more white. All things you usually complain about.

Parking? You mean IF you can even get to it TO park.

On the other hand, who can afford to shop there other then the River Oak residents. Like we really need another glorified mall.

I wouldn't mind if this thing resembled Union Square a little bit in San Fran. At the same time what is the city doing for middle income areas? See all this construction going on in the inner loop aimed towards the more upscale crowd not so much for the middle to lower class. How about some better public transit system for the common folk.

Please read the Original Post, with sarcasm.

I apologize; I guess it didn't come through in the text.
