Doesn't surprise me at all.

Infrastructure

“This Report Card is not good enough for our children, and it is certainly not good enough for the citizens of the Houston area,” said Clay Forister, Past President of the ASCE Houston Branch.

I wonder how they would rate most northeastern cities. Infrastructure is often a red headed stepchild compared to more visible, sexier projects like parks, public buildings and new stadiums and of course throwing money at new development

Thank you "cut spending" people
If Eisenhower would had followed your example our country wouldn't have a national highway system.

The Interstate Highway System - History.com

Quote:
It took several years of wrangling, but a new Federal-Aid Highway Act passed in June 1956. The law authorized the construction of a 41,000-mile network of interstate highways that would span the nation. It also allocated $26 billion to pay for them. Under the terms of the law, the federal government would pay 90 percent of the cost of expressway construction. The money came from an increased gasoline tax–now 3 cents a gallon instead of 2–that went into a non-divertible Highway Trust Fund.

The "cut spending people" generally have public infrastructure spending relatively low on their list.

A much larger roadblock to building such a network today would be the "save the earth people." The Byzantine layers of environmental reviews necessary for a major public infrastructure project today didn't exist in Eisenhower's time.

And the federal gas tax has remained the same since 1984 IIRMC? nationally we have huge infrastructure needs yet we are under funding our ability to maintain let alone expand our system.

One if the reasons why you are seeing more toll roads pop up in Texas and other places is because the gas tax has not been raised in two decades and highway funds are often diverted away to other pet projects that have nothing to do with transportation.

when we last had a hurricane crews from around the US were here trying to get our water and electricity up too. my electricity was out close to 3 weeks. it also took a day or two for them to tell us not to drink the water because it had been contaminated.

if the NE is scary than it should be even more scary that we scored lower

Highways were defense spending. In case we were ever invaded, we'd be able to move tanks and such around. Aren't we cutting defense?
