I know that the part where you enter from 45 north until gw bush airport road is free. But then I keep hearing people entering tollway before connecting to I-10 is free as well. Is this true?

For instance if I enter tollway from I-10 right after Gessner and get out at the first exit, would that be free?

The only complete segment (freeway to freeway) that is "free" is between I-45 and I-59 on the north side.

There are a few places where you can enter from another freeway and take the first exit free, or enter from the feeder and immediately take a freeway exit, but not many. I don't believe that is the case where you mentioned if I'm understanding correctly. From I-10, on SH going north, the first exit is Hammerly and it's a tolled exit.

Thanks for the reply.

So on which spots can I enter from another freeway and take the first exit free, or enter from the feeder and immediately take a freeway exit for free?

You can enter from 45N to SH westbound and take Ella. Or enter from eastbound feeder after Ella and take 45. I think on the south you can enter from 59S to SH northbound and take Bellaire. And enter southbound feeder and take 59. Over southeast you can enter from 45S and take Genoa Redbluff. Same deal, enter from feeder and take 45.

The beltway is all supposed to be free.
But that's another story

The Beltway is all free. The tolled portion is designated as the Sam Houston Tollway, not Beltway 8.

The beltway is free but you'll more than make up for the tolls in wasted gas, vehicle wear and tear, and time.

So THAT'S why it has two names, sometimes even on the same sign! Thanks for solving that mystery for me.

45S Gulf Freeway onto B8 both directions.
I-10 East side onto B8 both directions getting on. Going South on B8 has a free exit but you must take the Bridge to get over and it's not free.
