Just curious; we used to live in Dallas and have friends who have bought in the "up-and-coming" Oak Cliff area. They bought in pretty inexpensively and are over-hauling their bungalows. From what I am seeing, they are now getting neighbors who are educated, young families, and no one is tearing down and rebuilding, just remodeling.

What would be similar in Houston--if anything? We've checked out the Heights/Garden Oaks area, but all the new constructions ruin it for me. To me that is more like the M Streets of Dallas.

I don't quite understand this thread. You're looking for a gentrified Oakcliff like area in Houston?

Yep. Add Brookesmith to it near the Heights on the other side of Lindale Park.

I'm not familiar with Oak Cliff in Dallas, but if you want to buy in an area that has plenty of remodeling going on, these would be some of the better neighborhoods to target.

While I generally prefer Houston to Dallas, there is nowhere as topographically and architecturally attractive in Houston as North Oak Cliff.
