Do you have to have the AC on during the months from November thru May in Houston?

It depends on what you find comfortable. Right now it's still in the 90's and most people have the AC on. Once it drops into the 80's I usually turn mine off and don't turn it back on until May. One thing to mention however is that I live 3 blocks from the gulf and have a sea breeze most of the time to keep it cool.

Hey txgrl, what part of galveston are you in. I bought a few beach homes and visited galveston 6 time last year and like it there. Haven't been in the summer though so i don't know about the heat. During the winter and spring i come out about every 5-6 weeks or so.
I rent out the homes in the summer and I got my electric bill and almost fell over. $700 bucks each for the month of July. Is this normal or are the renters just abusive?
I was just out there a few weeks ago and wil be visiting again in November.

I live mid-town near the beach. The cooling costs have been outrageous this year for everyone. We refused to use ours until we just couldn't take it anymore and I dread the bill when it comes for this past month. One lady was on the news with a $900 bill and she said she kept her temp at a reasonable level. I wouldn't say your renters are abusing the cooling, everyone I know is paying at minimun $400 right now. I wish I could tell you why.. that seems to be the question on everyone's minds. If you want to cut back on the cost, you might be able to put an automated system in that doesn't allow renters to regulate the temp. Some people like it pretty cold I know and that's really going to add up fast.
