I'm okay with spending tax dollars to shut stupid people up.

See it as buying a service.

The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), a division of the federal governments National Institutes of Health (NIH), has spent $3,634,807 over the past decade funding research that involves getting monkeys to smoke and drink drugs such as PCP, methamphetamine (METH), heroin, and cocaine and then studying their behavior, including during different phases of the female monkeys menstrual cycles.

researchers conclude that the physiological effects of cocaine on monkeys were similar to those reported in studies of human subjects.
The government spends millions upon millions on bogus and wasteful studies.

Default Doomsday

Tell that to the Doomsday Preppers crowd. I don't normally watch that show, but have caught episodes here and there when channel surfing, and promos on NAT GEO channel. A couple of things I noticed is that they are not wealthy people, and most do not appear to be formally educated. I don't want to call them Hillbillies in fear of offending Hillbillies.
