Probably not in the outer part of the city, but inside the 610 in places like the Heights, Montrose, Rice Village, Midtown, etc.

Do you see people walking outside in those neighborhoods? Can you walk to many destinations and do a majority of your shopping and running errands without having to drive substantial distances?

Not really. There's some isolated pockets where you can walk, but it's really spread out for the most part. Plus it gets really hot, and downpours can happen almost any time, so not many people elect to walk around outside very much. I see a lot of walkers along Memorial Park Drive, though, for recreational purposes.

I see a lot of walkers in the areas you mentioned...especailly the Rice Village and Midtown area. A lot of area shopping in the Rice Village and Montrose area, but not so much the Hights. Some shopping and a lot of entertainment on the west end of Midtown.

We are getting into what is usually a pleasant time of the year so people will walk a bit more. Rice Village, particularly the shopping arcade and the university, will have people walking. Even when it's hot, there are lots of trees to provide shade. There is more pedestrian traffic along the Main Street corridor with the light rail and people getting on and off. There is the tunnel system downtown, so if you don't see a lot of people on the streets downtown during the day, they are underground. The Montrose area was mentioned - go down Westheimer and you will even have people walking in the street for you to avoid. So much for Houston not having any pedestrians, right?

Ah, yes. Autumn in Houston is the best. (which usually isn't very pleasant and crisp until mid-November)

There are all kinds of pedestrians inside the loop. You have to watch it because we are not LA... the motorists will not stop for pedestrians.

When I lived in Rice Village, I walked to everything. The gymn, the grocery store, resturaunts, clubs. If I went into the Montrose area, I would drive, but then park and walk around. Same for the heights.

Lots of walkers in Kingwood, both on the streets and the 75 miles of trails.
