I drove down all day Monday and got here early Tuesday. Will never do that again. And of course as luck would have it, it was actually colder here then in Chicago!!!!!!! I kid you not. I was freezing my butt off. All this talk about the TX heat. And sure enough, it's been ice cold every day I've been down here. Thanks guys. No really, thanks a lot. It doesn't look like it's going to warm up for awhile. At least we've had some decent sunlight since I've been down. Also got my first taste of Houston traffic on Monday. I drove over 40 miles during rush hour traffic from up north and it was fine. I was pleasantly surprised. Houston traffic is weird. It's bumper to bumper yet everyone is doing 80! That doesn't make me feel very comfortable. At least cars were moving.

Welcome to Houston. I'll be making a trip there in a week for the holidays. Can't wait to see all the new things and party in town. I've been waiting for it all month!

Welcome, jek! But if you think this traffic is bad, look out! It has been lighter the last week and will probably remain that way for a couple of weeks. I think with local colleges being out and a lot of people taking off for the holidays, that has made a bit of a difference in the traffic. Enjoy it while it lasts!

The 74F muggy seemed warm to me yesterday...lol. And it won't be anywhere near the last one we will see this winter. Houston as a true "average" temp. If the average high in Jan is 63F (compared to Chicago's average 32F) that means it might be 53F one day and a few days later 73F).

Welcome to Houston. Don't compare it to Chicago just find the great things that make Houston unique. It is a cool place to live.

Welcome to Houston.

The last two days seemed hot to me. I am actually loving the rain today.

Anyway, hope you have fun here. Hope you eat well

The biggest thing I'm going to miss is the mass transit. I have not owned a car in 13 years. I'm looking forward to everything else though.

Because of the mixed zoning it might be possible for you to choose wisely where you don't need a car for day to day needs.

I live in the energy corridor. My job is 5 minutes away from me by foot. My grocery store is 10 minutes by foot from me (still use a car because I hate carrying groceries). My gym is 15 minutes by foot from me. My bank is 8 minutes by foot from me. There are numerous restaurants and bars near me (under <10 minute walk). But then I basically live off of Westheimer. I only use my car during the weekends.
