It would be great for Houston's development if people could take a more open-minded attitude toward the "donut" between 610 and 8. As another poster noted, it's not all bad, by any stretch. There are lots of great neighborhoods in there. I wish people wouldn't perpetuate the idea that you must either be in the loop or halfway to San Antonio to be in a decent neighborhood.

That's the next area to boom.

As people are being priced out of east of Fountainview, they are grabbing everything between Westheimer, 59, Fountainview and the Beltway.

Okay, maybe not Bissonnet, but it's happening.

We live in the donut off 290 inside the beltway in a beautiful home and neighborhood. Love it here though we do send our kids private by choice. We bought well below our means - it happens, Lizzy, but you're right that it is far more expensive than most people anticipate. Tuition just goes up and up and up... every single year.

Not far outside of the beltway on West Rd. is a very nice 'working class' neighborhood called Winchester Country. The homes are smaller and older but very well tended with lots of trees, solid schools and it's a very convenient location IMO.

Next to us inside the beltway is Rolling Fork which is a very leafy and quiet neighborhood of affordable homes mostly from the 70's - 80's. My kids swam on their swim team a couple of years, a really lovely neighborhood community and vibe.
