We're New Yorkers who lived in Houston for work a couple years ago, came back to NYC and have basically decided to move back to Houston asap for the better lifestyle, friendly people, and my job. While we were there, we lived near Dunlavy street, at the intersection basically between Montrose, West U, Museum District... We thought it was great and probably will move back to that area.

But in moving back, are there some other areas that I should know about? Our priorities are super quick commute downtown (I hate to commute and occasionally work very long hours), good schools for our small baby eventually, and a nice house for up to 800K if we need to spend that much. We also appreciate having funky-ish stores and restaurants around. We live in Brooklyn now, and while Houston shouldn't be and isn't like that, we want some kind of similar flavor.

Thanks much.

I'd definitely recommend Montrose (77006), parts of Upper Kirby (77098) and River Oaks (77019), and the Heights (77008 and *some parts* of 77009).
