Looking to build a home in Cross Creek Ranch and was looking at the upgrade options. To upgrade to a tankless water heater is $1,500. I thought this a great price to get it in at the build of the house. What do you think? The house is a two story, three bath and 3k sqft.

Does sound like a reasonable price. The only negative I have heard about tankless is if the power goes out you will lose hot water.

I also hear they are prone to clogging from mineral buildup. It would be wise to invest in a water softener too.

Do your research first. What is the brand? Gas or electric? (don't go with electric). How many gallons a minute will you get? - some tankless units can only provide hot water to one tap at a time. Additionally, tankless water heaters require a minimum flow rate before the water will be heated, so you may not be able to get hot water to a high efficiency washing machine or some dishwashers.

That is a good price just be sure it is gas and check the model review some take longer than others to heat up the water.

After these posts and some of my own research I decided against it. The unit was gas from a well know maker but after speaking with the company it didn't sound like less of a headache. Plus I wasn't planning on adding a water softner and it sounds like you really should have one with a tankless.

Thank you everyone for your input.
