I'm looking to redo my mid-century Danish kitchen chairs. Any recommendations on a good shop? I got a quote from Calico Corner in Montrose at $300/chair; for that price, I could buy entirely new chairs! And if you've done this before, what was the approximate cost per chair (maybe $300/chair is fair!)? My chairs would need a new seat cushion and a new (half) back cushion.

When I redid my dining room chairs myself, I probably spent $100 total on material including new foam and cotton batting for the six chairs and probably about 12-15 hours worth of labor for two people so I guess that would be around $500 total for the project.

Thanks to LizzySWW for referral I had a great experience at this place. A bit slow but great price and work quality. They've redone all my pool patio cushions and I even had them come to my house and fix my italian leather furniture.

There is a place on I-10 on the west side that gets mentioned a bunch. Im sure someone will know the name.

I will say that this work is expensive. $300 per chair seems a bit high, but close to what I would expect from a specialty shop in town. I think youll be lucky to get it done for half that using a relatively cheap fabric.

I paid a company in Pearland to redo my couch cushions. The work was fine, but the guy over committed and under delivered more than once on the job. He charged me to do the lower and upper cushions, then when the upper cushions were more difficult to do than he thought(after seeing them in person), he said the lowers ended up costing him more as well, so the price would stay the same for the entire job, even though he did half of it.

Ive got a temper, so instead of beating him to a pulp for being a terrible businessman, I just let it go.

Whew, tangent complete.

Good luck.

It may be too far but

Burke's
15202 Kuykendahl
281 444 7392

They did several chairs for me. The price was very reasonable. When I told her the fabric I wanted she told me where to go buy it as she would have to charge 25 dollars a yard. I got the fabric at a local store on 1960 similar to Calico Corners for $3 a yard.

Wow, $3 a yard???? That's amazing. Even at Jo-Ann's with a 50% off coupon, I paid $15/yard for fabric. I'm willing to travel for a good store; these are mid-century Scandinavian chairs that are hard to find nowadays so I want to do everything I can to restore them to their former glory.

Thanks all for the recommendations; knew I could count on you :-) Now time to make phone calls...

Can't remember the name of the fabric shop. It is east of the Panera Target shopping center on the south side of 1960. Looks like it has been there for 50 years. I was surprised when Burke's sent me there.

I picked a printed denim off the mark down rack which accounts for the price. If you select a menswear wool for those mid century modern chairs, it will be a different story. ;-)

Do you need a blue 9x12 Rya rug?
