Hi, I have been searching for a job (chemical/environmental engineer) and most of my phone interviews have been in the Houston area. I dont have an offer yet, but was wondering what areas are good to live in in order to work in the more industrial area to the east (greens bayou area).

I want to get far enough away from the industrial area not to feel as if I am living in the pollution but dont want a horrible commute. I want to rent and not own. Priorities to me are a place to do yoga/gym, near a park with somewhere I can run (a trail would be great if available), and somewhere with some good grocery options. If I could find an apartment with an outdoor space that would be nice too.

I am from Michigan but lived in Florida for the last 10 years so heat/humidity/mosquitoes are normal for me. I had an hour to hour and a half commute for an 11 mile drive (if I didnt get to work before 7, before 7 more like a half hour) and would prefer not to repeat that.

Thanks

Laura

Well, I am probably not going to live on the west side and commute to the east side to live in a better neighborhood that I cannot enjoy because I am in my car. Part of a commute is certainly choice.

Does anyone know where to live that is convenient to Greens Bayou but also a few of my favorite activities? I had a phone interview today. Hopefully a second soon. Then visit.

well I am 28,like going out to eat and sometimes dance but drinking a lot and partying are not my thing. I prefer something with an outdoor space. Budget is not set yet. I could afford 800-1000 a month but I would prefer to spend less and save more. I dont need to be in the thick of things daily but prefer to have amenities close by.

I have no kids and no immediate need to start a family. I am an engineer. I like things like farmers markets, yoga, restaurants, cooking, gardening, reading, and meditation.

Ah. You sound like a Heights gal. It's right on 1-10, just north of downtown.I have no clue about rentals in that area, maybe someone else can help.
Also, there are apartment along Memorial close to downtown that might work.

Is it north west of houston? Is that a long drive to Greens Bayou?

The heights is in the loop (610 loop) north of the I-10. The commute is pretty good once you get past the I-10 I-45 interchange, maybe half an hour?

Houston's a city of 6 million, there's bound to be a spot of Jazz music somewhere...
