Hi folks,

I've been searching on realtor.com in Several areas in North/Northeast burbs. We would need to be within 40 minutes of Bush International. I have found wonderful homes with Pools in all the areas listed below.

Montgomery
The Woodlands
Magnolia
Conroe
Kingwood
Spring
Cypress

I've heard from several friends that say The Woodlands is really nice but very congested. Also, most of the houses are on .24 acre lots and we just don't want to be on top of neighbors. We are also empty nesters and schools and kid friendly n'hoods are not our top priority. Spring and Cypress seem to be developed and many of the homes for sale are over 10 years or on small lots. Kingwood doesn't have much inventory for sale. Magnolia is pushing the commute but nice lots and homes (worry about the commute with Exxon relocating headquarters there). In my search on realtor.com PORTER, Tx has come up. Very nice homes on .50 to over 1.5 acre lots. I did a search on this forum regarding Porter...and boy, it has a bad reputation of being "white trash redneck" area. Now granted they must be working class people to be residing in 300k++ homes. I know Houston is the fastest growing city right now in the U.S. Surely areas such as Cypress/Spring/Kingwood were once considered quite rural. So surely a small town like Porter will eventually catch up in regards to shopping/restaurants instead of the only place in town being Walmart?! So this gets me to my question. What are the problems in Porter? Do you think that it is growing and one day catch up to the ranks of the Woodlands?. Thanks In Advance...I will check back in soon.

I'm not trying to get the answer I would love to hear of course.....but anyone? I am so glad I found this forum as it has been a wealth of information...especially the pool installation. And It is bookmarked! So let me ask this: I have found some great new home construction, but not liking the lot size or area. One in particular and I think I found the builder is Fabian Garcia custom homes? Anyone familiar with this builder and his reputation? I'm a huge researching when it comes to make huge decisions so I will go to ripoffreport dot com and see. Would love feedback Houstonian! So very excited to get back to zone9! Thanks in advance..again!

Here is another alternative to Porter - do a search on HAR for a lot size of a minimum sq ft.

Porter will never be the Woodlands and yeah you will find redneck people there but as Houston grows and grows and grows, so too will that area. As more younger, progressive thinking people move there - the old mentality will begin to fade away. Even if it fades -- the reputation will always be there. But if you find an area you like and find what you are looking for - I wouldn't worry about reputation.
