I've read multiple places that redlight cameras INCREASE accidents - especially rear end accidents.

Yeap. Actually my wife got into one. The other driver clearly stated she was in a hurry to make the light so she won't get a camera ticket. Go figure

Red light camera only work in the rare case where there is a well-marked timer informing drivers exactly how long they have before the light turns red. Without this information, it is impossible to judge when a green will turn yellow or how long the yellow will last. If two motorists judge differently, there may be an accident. I'm surprised most people don't at least advocate for timers. Without timers, it is too hard for drivers to judge those things, however safe and well-intentioned the drivers may be.

Yes, those cameras always scare me. They make me more afraid of getting into an accident than I ever was before.

IIHS-HLDI

They reduce fatalities and injuries, I strongly support them even though I've received a red light ticket in Sugar Land.

One of the reasons I hate driving in Houston, drivers there show a total disregard of safety, one of the reasons car insurance is so high in Houston. Last thing I want is to get T-boned by a red light runner.

not pretty...

Agree completely. For this very reason, I go out of my way to avoid them. Sometimes it takes me twice as long, which sucks. I'm not worried about me getting a camera ticket, I'm worried about the person behind me rear-ending me causing a ton of unnecessary harm.

"Just so ya know - about 70 percent of violators do not live in Sugar Land. Red light violators rarely receive a second ticket."

Doesn't surprise me I bet half of the dangerous drivers on Sugar Land roads don't live there. Texas state law forbids radar cameras, I see many drivers speeding excessively in Sugar Land. Radar cameras take care of that but Sugar Land isn't allowed to install them.

The only crash I've ever been in, was a red light runner in Houston, fortunately she just clipped the front end of my car. Houston voters pulled the cameras, makes the roads even more dangerous. Personally I know whenever I to drive in Houston I'm putting my health in jeopardy.

I had no problem with the cameras when I was in Houston. I even got one ticket. Hey, I broke a law. I paid my fine.

The studies say the red light cameras do make it safer.
