100 million reasons to celebrate, and a few to condemn | The Highwayman | a Chron.com blog

So very disappointing. One short lousy red line is 300 million in the red? [mod edit - language] And this is why I hate government so much. Could they possibly be any more inefficient? Look, I love rail. I really do and I want nothing more to at least have the inner loop connected at every corner by rail. But how on God's green earth are they running up this kind of debt? Only one possible answer I can think of.....government corruption.

You spelled disaster wrong.

It is an investment for the future. Metro is handling the building of the rail. People will use the rail more when there is more rail connected together. What the article does not mention is the cost of all these freeways people commute on. How we have to expand and redo them every two decades or so. We are growing at a rapid pace. There is only so wide and so many roads we can make to handle traffic.

I don't hate the government,
I hate corruption and you can find that in private business, too.

And how is the state recouping the billions of dollars spent on the Katy Freeway expansion? Oh, they're not? Oh, my, what a waste. Must be government corruption...

FYI,
libraries, museums, public schools, highways, airports.... even NASA are not profitable.
But guess what, everybody benefits from them.

Freeways for some reason always get a special exemption in these conversations. Freeways are sent down from God as a gift! We should not scrutinize them!

The article was pointless. Just like you can analyze Houston's costs vs Ridership, you can do that with any city. Their numbers wouldn't be any more impressive. Hell, even Denver's expansive lightrail system has been found to be underwhelming when it comes to comparing regular traffic on the freeways.

But that doesn't stop these cities from building.

People need to give it up!
