I've been looking through the postings on this sight and they are very helpful. Thanks to all that are contributing. However, I'm do not believe I've seen a thread addressing my situation. I am in my Forty's and relocating to Houston initially without my family. I'm looking for a vibrant neighborhood to live for a few months before the family joins me. I'd like amenities such as grocery and pharmacies but I'd also like to play, museums/galleries, coffee shops, eclectic shopping, festivals etc. . . It is unlikely that I would hit the clubs and do the late-night scene. Safety and dog-friendly are also big factors. I love the ultra-modern and/or loft type living space and this is probably the only time I will get to do something like this until the kids go off to college. I've been looking at City Place Midtown at McGowen Street & Brazos/Baldwin Streets but they only have ground floor apartments available for my term and I'm worried about the noise (late night party-ers) and safety factor. Are these concerns warranted? Does anyone know of other places that might the bill? Any suggestions for neighborhoods, pockets within neighborhoods and of course apartment complexes that would fit my criteria?

My price point is $1500-2000 for a one bedroom.

There are some lofts in The Heights. I like The Heights a lot. It fits your criteria.

Honestly, the only place I've seen true lofts in Houston has been downtown. I lived in one downtown for a year when I first moved here and loved it, but it's not for everyone. For me it was the accessibility to walk everywhere downtown catch the light rail to the zoo/museum district, walk around discovery green/down by the bayou at the weekends.
