For those of you looking at the area and curious about our school, Durham Elementary, I am excited to share that the school has received its IB World School Status!

This is a huge deal and a testament to the hard work the teachers, students and community have put in despite principal turnover in the past few years.

So happy to see this thread. My husband and I are just starting to consider a move [back] to Houston from Dallas, where we've been for 4 years. We rented in Oak Forest when we lived in Houston, and always thought Candlelight offered the best neighborhood feel in that area - just a touch quieter and more "taken care of" than where we were. The job my husband is considering is almost in Spring, but we really don't want to live that far out. I previously worked in the Medical Center, so if I were to work again, it would be nice to be close enough to do so again (as opposed to living in Spring). We also have a 3 year old and another on the way, and I haven't seen great things about Durham Elementary.

Does anyone have any experience with that reverse commute out to Spring and back in the afternoons?

If you haven't been to Oak Forest in four years you might not recognize it

Nah, we drive through every time we're there for a visit. And I sit outside our old house in our car and cry.

I love the area, and will look there if we make the move. Candlelight always just looked a little more . . . refined. The yards were more kept, there were fewer cars parked in yards, no big-rig parked in the driveway. No neon palm tree lit up at night (though we still miss that crazy thing . . . )
