Not so much you move into an area and get hit with some crime just being in the area. Pretty much everywhere else is Houston is relitavely "safe" as long as you don't mess with the crimey people you know.

SW is much worse than Sunnyside. That's why no matter how cute that house is you couldn't pay me to live anywhere SW close proximity to Fondren. Brasewood, Willow Bend, Meyerland, Westbury hell nah.
Hence, why I pointed out that this list is going on violent crimes rather than property crimes.

Property crimes tend to be more random and thus more of a concern to typical people. You're not particularly likely to be a victim of a murder or an aggravated assault if you're not a gang member or a drug dealer (or know a bunch of them.) You're not terribly likely to be a robbery victim unless you own a liquor store or similar business. But random dudes will break into your home when you're not there and run off with your stuff.

Of course, even the property crime statistics aren't foolproof -- most people are probably more concerned about thieves breaking into their home than they are about thieves breaking in to a nearby industrial warehouse or storefront after hours, but I believe both of those get counted as burglaries.

Spoken like a true suburbanite. Meyerland is nowhere even near the ghetto and is one of the nicest areas in Houston. Same goes for Westbury and Willow Bend which are nice but they are honestly kind of boring and have nothing really going for them.

Outside of the West Bellfort area, the rest of the areas labeled Fondren were in Sharpstown while the Ravensworth area is closer to Stafford

If you mind your business and don't live close to the apartments, its not as bad in Fondren. The closer you go up Fondren towards Sharpstown, its worse as its very dense and any and everyone is living over there

but again, these "developers" are the blame for this...why allow people to invest $180K for a nice house to be surrounded by apartments?

They're not but they're a short car drive from Fondren SW and that's the problem for me.

Meyerland ain't that far from Fondren/Sharpstown. You can drive from 59 to Meyerland in like 15 minutes maybe 20 give or take. I'm not in a bubble in the burbs out here. There's tons of apartments but they are $400-500 a month. Not everyone who lives in those prices are bad but for the good number that are they have friends that come to them.

Exactly! But like I said those are mostly lower income apartments. Doesn't matter what shade of the rainbow lives there.

Like that old lady minding her own damn business last year who was killed in Westbury. Nice area housing but some bastards from some apartments felt the need to break in and steal some jewerly and people defending themselves get killed? Hell no.

At least in the burbs there's a bunch of you. The riff raff aren't targeting the lone few streets of nice ness surrounded by apartments. There's more houses so you're less likely to get robbed. There's like 300 houses to pass up before you get to you for that riff raff vs 50 nice $280k one story verses tons of apartment complexes.

There's strength in numbers is my "burb" mentality as far as random crimes.

Like those houses down Antoine. WHY live in a mansion a walk from the corner store in Acres Homes? You stick out like a sore thumb. There's nothing bland in the suburbs but it's nice to blend in meaning all the houses look different yet work together.

It's nice McMansion, shack, apartment complex, complex, bungalow, bungalow, shack shack, shack you know dealer live in, mansion. Who you gonna rob? The people close by easy target and not difficult to find.

this 2007 study about where most convicted felons wind up after being released from prison.
The ex-cons next door | TOP STORIES | Breaking Houston News, Weather, Sports, Traffic, Video from KHOU.com | 11 News

Kashmere Gardens (2009 pop. 11,379)
South Park (23,086)
Fifth Ward (23,481)
South Acres (including Cresmont Park 19,863)
Acres Homes (26,488)
OST (including South Union 21,551)

Fondren SW (67,852), Sharpstown (81,124), Alief (108,971), and Greenspoint (45,659) are considered safer per capita but they have established a more notorious reputation due to their vastly larger populations, close proximity to the suburbs and in the case of the three largest continuous proximity to each other. There are 257,947 people living in the SW hoods.
