well, apparently the numbers noted in the article are based off actual statistics and not us houstonians going "nah, no way."

everything crimey in the paper the last year is Northwest Houston, four corners, and sunnyside area. i agree with sunnyside

i bring my uppercrust ethnically white self down to acres home and 5th ward from time to time for work. i come across very helpful drug addicts and old folks more often than anyone i would consider being afraid of

I think it should be pointed out that the website that compiled this information usually goes by Census tract data. Most Census tracts have around 5-6,000 people -- that's more like a subdivision than a neighborhood. A few apartment complexes could probably constitute a Census tract, and if they're particularly shady complexes that could lead to a really high crime rate for that small area.

Second point: the rankings appear to be going solely on violent crime rate (according to the FBI, that's murder/manslaughter, forcible rape, robbery, and aggravated assault), but doesn't include property crimes like burglaries and thefts. Some other neighborhoods may be worse for property crimes like break-ins but aren't as bad on violent crimes.

True but most North side stuff is familiar crime. Random crime aka typical is definitely Fondren SW and such.

On the Northside and elsewhere only if you fool with your shady family members and they're friends will you have issues.

Not so much you move into an area and get hit with some crime just being in the area. Pretty much everywhere else is Houston is relitavely "safe" as long as you don't mess with the crimey people you know.

SW is much worse than Sunnyside. That's why no matter how cute that house is you couldn't pay me to live anywhere SW close proximity to Fondren. Brasewood, Willow Bend, Meyerland, Westbury hell nah. I don't care if that 1970s house is remodeled with diamond encrusted everything.
