Pointe West on the West End of Galveston is quite nice. A nice subtropical aura complete with colorful beach homes, and nice, sandy beaches

Galveston Cons:
1. The sand is more like mud
2. The water can look like chocolate milk at times

Many people choose to look at the sand/dirt and non-sky-blue water and dismiss everything else that Galveston has to offer, but my family enjoys going there often.

If you're destination goal is mainly white sand beach and blue water, Galveston isn't going to be the place to go. If you are looking for a seaside destination to enjoy everything else with a view and sound of the ocean along with a breeze, it offers a lot.
This should be repeated.

And one thing I would add-the water is warm. If you actually like to get in the water, it blows away the freezing Atlantic and Pacific beaches. Those beautiful California beaches are also loaded with sewage from Mexico.

Agreed. Heard somewhere that all the crap from Mississippi river gets dumped in Galveston. This is an old article but interesting results. Now who would want to swim or surf in fecal matter

"National Resources Defense Council says 5 percent of the Texas beach water it sampled last year exceeded national standards for bacteria and fecal matter. Delaware and New Hampshire had the best water. Louisiana, where 29 percent of samples were contaminated, had the worst."

When it comes to dirty water, how do Texas beaches compare nationally? - SciGuy

From your article:

Of the 30 states with beaches, Texas ranks a relatively good eighth in terms of the quality of its beach water.

A report released Today by the National Resources Defense Council says 5 percent of the Texas beach water it sampled last year exceeded national standards for bacteria and fecal matter. Delaware and New Hampshire had the best water. Louisiana, where 29 percent of samples were contaminated, had the worst.
Avalon Beach in California ranked as the dirtiest beach overall in terms of beach water. On the plus side, South Padre Island ranks among the environmental group’s five-star beaches for water quality.

Testing The Waters: Ratings for a Selection of U. S. Popular Beaches | NRDC

OTOH, if you follow the links for the beach ratings, Galveston (Surfside) is rated 2 stars with 11.5% exceeding the pollution standards in 2012. Stewart Beach is 3 stars and Appfel Park is 2 stars.

The South Padre Beach and Port Aransas South are rated 4 stars with only .8% and 2.7%, respectively.

Surfside is Freeport not Galveston. Those ratings show that these readings change from year to year. In one previous year a beach in Galveston had NO readings the whole year above the standard which is something it appears no other beach in Texas can say for itself. Galveston is doing just fine thank you....

People need to get in with the times; Galveston is not "dirty" anymore. In fact, some of the beaches on the island (especially the West End) are quite gorgeous. They may not look like beaches in Cancun, or Cozumel, but they are still gorgeous.

Define gorgeous.

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.
