Just curious, do some employers in the Houston area provide Spanish Language lessons for employees? I was once in FL and one of the offered benefits, in a particular multinational firm, was actually free weekly onsite lessons in Spanish language [including other business relevant languages]. I ask, because I am interested in relocating to Houston, and have noticed quite a number of positions in the Houston area say: "Bilingual Spanish". I would probably associate this need with the company's international customer base, but regardless, I would still love to complete instruction in the language, if nothing more than for personal/professional reasons.

Live here long enough and you'll pick some up. I don't think a day goes by that I don't hear someone speaking Spanish. Some Employers may offer if there is a business need for it but not just offering it for no reason.

Not so much international customers but more local/regional who either refuse to learn after 10 some years (by a decade somewhere you should be past the need for an interpreter and 1-3 people in the whole office/company should suffice for interpreters or whatever) and since we make it so easy to not learn.

Considering Houston and energy it should be bilingual whatever oil producing Middle Eastern country language not Spanish but

Interesting! Yes, languages are an "entrance" into another's culture and world. I will definitely keep my eyes open for avenues for taking Spanish lessons...it is the welcomed new reality, with a promise for the present and future.

A lot of energy companies do business in Africa where French and Portuguese are the prevalent languages.
