Really nice article, both from a Houston POV, and the mayor's. A lot to be proud of when you read that.

Thanks for posting it.

Default Positive article

Houston is on the right track; I don't always agree with her party's view, but I will be honest and say that I think Mayor Parker does deserve credit for Houston's success and is doing a great job as Mayor. The 'proof of the pudding is in the eating' as the saying goes.

I like our mayor. At first I didn't think she carried herself very well as a leader, but after a short while she proved herself.

Of course WSJ had to put "gay" in the subtitle, because of course- that's the most important thing.

They put it in there because the media tends to report the bizarre and unusual. Let's be honest, to most Americans the fact a huge city in Texas has a lesbian for a mayor is bizarre and unusual to say the least.

And this is an example of what makes Houston such a unique city among large American cities--to the rest of the country, the fact we have a gay mayor is news. Here in Houston, it's not an issue. Heck, it's hardly even a talking point.

Because it doesn't fit with their stereotypes about Texas. My friends on the West Coast are surprised when they see pictures of Houston and it is so green. And they don't expect a major Texas city to elect a gay mayor.

There's a point that you realize that is the same thing as saying "She uses X color underwear"
Who gives a ....? It has nothing to do with her job.

read any article about the mayor on the chronicle. check out the comment section. a whole lot of people have a problem with her sexuality though i am betting they aren't houston residents. the stereotype of texas still exists for a reason, but houston wrongfully gets the brunt of the abuse a lot of times
